La maison forestière du rond-point
Located in the heart of the forest, where eight roads converge from all directions, the hamlet known as Le Rond-Point has just one house, the ‘forest house’, the residence of the "brigadier", now known as the "senior forestry technician", which was built in 1853. Nearby, the officers’ lodge dates from 1880. Another forest house, at a place known as ‘la Borne Saint-Léger’, is situated on the northern edge of Saint-Mandé, but within the territory of Villedieu. Forestry plays an important role in the economic history of the commune. The two main tree species found here are oak and beech. Today, the Aulnay Forest is classified as a Natural Area of Ecological, Faunistic and Floristic Interest (ZNIEFF) and forms part of the Natura 2000 network.
