The circumference of this yew tree indicates that it may have been planted before the church was built. These trees, symbols of eternity, were venerated by the Vikings. They entrusted them with the care of their dead. The church then appropriated this belief. From the time the church was built until the end of the 19th century, the cemetery was located in front of the church. It is likely that this yew tree was planted to protect it. Indeed, as its berries are poisonous, these trees were planted in cemeteries to ward off wild animals likely to dig up the dead.
