Aulnay: Images and Words – an artistic and heritage experience centred on the sculptures of Aulnay Church, combining music, images, screenings and cultural outreach Act 1 (mini-concert + guided tour), 4 pm at the church – booking essential • A mini-concert: Sandrine Lefebvre, a teacher at the La Rochelle Conservatoire, will perform Johann Sebastian Bach’s Suite No. 1 in G major for cello inside the church. A moment of musical fervour and immersion within the Romanesque stonework. • A guided tour: Rémy Prin explains the church’s imagery and how it evolved from the start to the end of the building’s construction. A journey through the symbols and sometimes surprising messages of 12th-century sculptors. Act 2 (screening): 6pm – at the Salle des fêtes, Place Charles de Gaulle, Aulnay – Doors open at 5.30pm – • A video on the big screen: A poetic and musical journey details and brings to life over 40 sculpted scenes. The visuals, the actors’ voices and the musical improvisations on the cello all serve to spark the imagination. Three segments highlight the styles of each picture-book illustrator’s workshop. A moment of enchantment and evocation for the present day, created with contributions from Jérôme Berthelot, Marie Boutteaud, Jean-Marie Bréhier, Christian Garnier, Sandrine Lefebvre and Rémy Prin, in a revamped version.
